Dick is a veteran CEO having driven 13 mid-tier businesses through “hands-on” transitions into improved performance.
Concurrently, Dick founded and led The Cross Partnership Ltd. where he served as the personal advisor to over 100 other mid-tier CEO’s and their companies. He has been a two-time private equity principal at Fenway Partners and at Alston Capital Partners. He created and led the Mid-Tier Presidents’ course at Harvard.
Dick has headed and advised public and private companies across a spectrum of industries that includes, among others, building products, high-end furniture, consumer products, sporting goods, food products, professional services, commercial real estate, information services, publishing, automotive services, automotive parts, telecommunications equipment, industrial disposal services, large scale industrial metal fabrication and agricultural equipment.
He is the author of two best-selling books on the job at the top and on how to do it well, Just Run it! and 60-Minute CEO.
Dick has been a sought-after keynote speaker and has been published in leading business journals. He was co-host of a leading CEO podcast. Currently, he is working on his third book on the art of CEO-ship, to be entitled Your Job at the Top.
A broadly seasoned CEO and CEO advisor, Dick’s interests and expertise center on the job at the top and on transforming organizational effectiveness and performance.
His approach encompasses the whole of a business. It aligns the analytical realities with the resolve to do what it takes to achieve its stated aspirations. He has chaired public, private, not-for-profit and citizen-government organizations. For eight years he chaired the Boston Harbor Alliance in transforming and funding 34 islands in Boston Harbor into a National Park. For five years he chaired the newly formed Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation to consolidate the state’s environmental and recreation agencies.
Dick is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Architecture, the Harvard University Graduate School of Design and the Columbia University Graduate School of Business. He served as a Top Secret Special Intelligence Officer in the US Navy.
He lives in Concord, Massachusetts and summers with his family at Gloucester Point, Virginia. His personal interests include family, friends, fitness, the out-of-doors, boating, automobiles and writing.
